This bill amends the Michigan building code to allow a single interior exit stairway in multiple-family dwellings with up to four levels above grade plane or three levels with an occupiable roof. The dwelling must have no more than four units per level, a net floor area per level of no more than 4,000 square feet, and an exit access travel distance of no more than 125 feet. The stairway must comply with fire alarm, smoke detection, and sprinkler system requirements.
