Michigan HB5516, known as the "foreign law limitation act," prohibits courts, arbitrators, and administrative bodies from applying or enforcing foreign law that would violate constitutional rights. This includes laws from international organizations, religious organizations, or treaties. The act does not apply to agreements made before its effective date. If foreign law enforcement would impair constitutional rights, courts must refuse to apply it, modify it, or void it if modification is not possible. The act also considers whether parties knowingly agreed to foreign law application.
