Introduced Text

Michigan Fair Chance Access to Housing Act establishes fair housing practices for landlords in Michigan.

The Michigan Fair Chance Access to Housing Act aims to ensure fair housing practices by prohibiting landlords from evaluating rental applications based solely on an applicant's criminal record. Landlords must issue a conditional offer if the applicant meets all application criteria. They cannot inquire about criminal records before issuing a conditional offer, except as required by law. The act mandates landlords to provide applicants with their rights and legal resources if they believe their rights under the act have been violated.
