Michigan HB5263 requires the Michigan veterans' facility ombudsman to investigate reports of abuse, neglect, or exploitation in veterans' facilities.

Michigan HB5263 amends the Michigan Public Health Code to mandate that the Michigan veterans' facility ombudsman investigate reports of abuse, neglect, or exploitation in veterans' facilities. The ombudsman can initiate investigations independently or upon receiving a complaint. The bill also requires the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and employees of veterans' facilities to forward reports of abuse to the ombudsman. The ombudsman is authorized to interview relevant individuals during investigations. The bill will only take effect if other specified bills are enacted.
