Michigan HB5131 amends the individual income tax law to allow deductions for capital gains from the sale or exchange of investment coins and bullion.

Michigan HB5131 amends the state's individual income tax law to allow deductions for capital gains from the sale or exchange of investment coins and bullion. Investment coins are defined as numismatic coins or other forms of money and legal tender manufactured of gold, silver, platinum, palladium, or other metals. Bullion refers to gold, silver, or platinum in a bulk state. The bill specifies that the deduction applies to tax years beginning on and after January 1, 2026.
