Michigan HB5077 requires written consent for subcontracting care of a decedent.

Michigan HB5077 amends sections 1805 and 1810 of the 1980 Public Health Code to mandate that an individual licensed to practice mortuary science must obtain prior written consent from the next of kin or other legally authorized person before subcontracting the care of a decedent to another funeral director or facility. The consent form must include the name, address, and phone number of the subcontracted funeral director or facility, the reason for subcontracting, any potential changes in services or costs, and a signature from the next of kin or other legally authorized person.
