Michigan HB5048 provides for special registration plates for Cold War veterans, Gold Star Family members, and Blue Star Family members.

Michigan HB5048 amends the state's vehicle registration law to allow special registration plates for various groups. Former prisoners of war and their spouses can apply for plates marked "EX-POW." Members of the United States Armed Forces during the Cold War era, defined as September 2, 1945, to December 26, 1991, and their spouses can also apply for special plates. Gold Star Family members, those who have lost a family member while serving in the Armed Forces, and Blue Star Family members, those with a family member currently serving, can apply for their own designated plates.
