HB4734

Human services: county services; designation of a patient surrogate for health care decisions; allow. Amends sec. 66h of 1939 PA 280 (MCL 400.66h).

Chamber Passed·9/18/25

Allows designation of a patient surrogate for health care decisions in Michigan.

This bill amends Michigan law to allow the designation of a patient surrogate for health care decisions. It ensures that no person can be compelled to undergo a surgical operation or accept medical treatment against their wishes. If a person is not of sound mind or unable to make decisions, written consent must be obtained from a nearest relative, a legally designated patient advocate, or an appointed guardian. This provision does not prevent temporary first aid in emergencies.
