HB4245

Food: processors; maple syrup and honey producers; designate as limited food processors. Amends sec. 4105 of 2000 PA 92 (MCL 289.4105).

Chamber Passed·4/22/25

Designates maple syrup and honey producers as limited food processors in Michigan.

This bill amends the Michigan Public Health Code to classify maple syrup and honey producers as limited food processors, exempting them from certain licensure requirements. Producers of honey and maple syrup can operate retail outlets and processing facilities without a license if their gross sales are below $15,001.00. These products must be labeled similarly to cottage food products. The bill also clarifies that vending machines dispensing these products do not require separate licensing if they are extensions of the licensed food establishment.
