Allows rearing of up to 25 hens in residential areas with certain property size and number limits.
The bill amends the Michigan land use law to permit the rearing of egg-laying hens in residential areas. This is allowed if the property is at least 1/4 acre in size and the number of hens does not exceed 5 hens for every 1/4 acre or a total of 25 hens, whichever is less. The bill also allows for the regulation of noise, advertising, traffic, and hours of operation related to this use. The amendment will not take effect unless another bill, House Bill No. 4050, is also enacted into law.
