Michigan HB4008 amends the Michigan income tax law to introduce a tax credit for qualified volunteers. Effective for tax years beginning after January 1, 2025, the bill allows a credit of $2,500 for individuals who volunteer as firefighters or emergency medical services personnel with an organized fire department or life support agency. To qualify, volunteers must have at least 120 hours of active service during the tax year and receive only reimbursement for reasonable expenses or benefits and fees customarily paid by employers.
