This bill amends the Massachusetts General Laws to allow individuals insured under dental benefit plans to direct, in writing, that benefits be paid directly to a dental care provider who has not contracted with the insurer. This provision applies to stand-alone dental plans covering oral surgical care, services, and procedures. The bill excludes certain types of insurance coverage, such as hospital confinement indemnity and Medicare supplement. The amount paid to non-contracted providers must be at least equal to the amount paid to participating dentists.
