Massachusetts S634 amends Chapter 131 of the General Laws to restrict the use of traps for capturing furbearing mammals. It prohibits the use of steel jaw leghold traps, padded leghold traps, and lethal snares. Exceptions are made for "Conibear®" style traps, "dog proof" foot encapsulation restraints, non-lethal cable restraints, and other devices designed not to harm the animal, as well as for common type mouse and rat traps, nets, and box or cage type traps.
