Massachusetts S609, also known as the Massachusetts Hotel Packaging Reduction Act, prohibits hotels from providing small plastic bottles containing personal care products such as shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and liquid soap. Hotels violating this provision will receive a warning and face civil penalties of $250 for the first violation and $500 for any subsequent violation in the same year. The Department of Environmental Protection will enforce the act, which is set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
