Massachusetts S606 mandates additional water quality testing after combined sewage overflows.
Massachusetts S606 requires the Department of Environmental Protection to conduct further testing of water bodies and waterways following a combined sewage overflow. The department, in consultation with the Department of Public Health, will use the data to create a predictive model for water quality and identify areas with high bacteria content. Permittees with bacteria levels exceeding 235 colony forming units per 100 milliliters must develop a mitigation plan, subject to approval. The department can suspend testing from December to March based on weather conditions.
