Massachusetts S42 amends Chapter 7D of the General Laws to prohibit state agencies, local government entities, and municipalities from paying or communicating with entities that have engaged in a cybersecurity incident involving data encryption and ransom demands. Any state agency or local government entity that experiences a ransom request must report to and consult with the Chief Information Officer (CIO).
