Massachusetts S3109 provides a one-time opportunity for eligible teachers to join the alternative superannuation retirement benefit program. Eligible teachers must have been active or inactive members of the teachers’ retirement system or the Boston retirement system before July 1, 2001, and must have begun contributing before that date. They must also not have previously elected to participate in the alternative superannuation retirement benefit program. If they join and do not meet certain service requirements, they will be reimbursed for their contributions plus interest upon retirement.
