Massachusetts S2911 allows cities and towns to use ranked choice voting in municipal elections.
Massachusetts S2911 provides a local option for ranked choice voting in municipal elections. Cities and towns can adopt this voting method if the number of candidates exceeds the number of seats to be filled. Voters rank candidates in order of preference. If no candidate has enough votes to win in the first round, the candidate with the fewest votes is eliminated, and their votes are redistributed to the remaining candidates based on the next preference. This process continues until a candidate has enough votes to win.
