S.2653

Updating the Move Over Law

Chamber Passed·10/16/25
Introduced Text

Massachusetts S2653 updates the Move Over Law to include utility vehicles and disabled vehicles.

Massachusetts S2653 amends the Move Over Law to include utility vehicles and disabled vehicles in the definition of vehicles that drivers must move over for. The law now requires drivers to change lanes when approaching emergency response vehicles, highway maintenance vehicles, utility vehicles, disabled vehicles, or recovery vehicles with activated flashing lights. A second or subsequent offense under this section will require the driver to complete a program selected by the registrar of motor vehicles that encourages a change in driver behavior and attitude.
