Massachusetts S1901 reduces property taxes for senior citizens by allowing volunteer service credits.
Massachusetts S1901 amends the General Laws to reduce property taxes for senior citizens by allowing them to receive credits for volunteer services. Cities and towns can reduce the real property tax obligations of individuals over 60 based on up to 175 hours of volunteer service per year, subject to local limits. This reduction is in addition to any other exemptions or abatements the senior may be entitled to. The bill also allows for an approved representative to provide services on behalf of seniors who are physically unable to volunteer.
