Massachusetts S1517 establishes the Automatic External Defibrillator Trust Fund to finance the purchase of automated external defibrillators for public safety vehicles. The fund will receive revenues from a $0.50 surcharge on vehicular rental transactions, with a cap of $1,000,000 annually. Any surcharge revenue exceeding $1,000,000 will be deposited into the General Fund. The surcharge does not apply to transportation network companies or rentals shorter than 24 hours charged hourly. The act takes effect on January 1, 2025.
