Massachusetts S1477 restricts the use of polystyrene in food and retail establishments. Starting August 1, 2027, food establishments will be prohibited from using polystyrene disposable food containers. Retail establishments will be prohibited from selling or distributing polystyrene disposable food containers. A food establishment may apply for an exemption if using polystyrene would cause undue hardship. The commissioner will create regulations for enforcement.
