Establishes peer-run respite centers throughout Massachusetts for individuals experiencing emotional or mental distress.
The bill establishes peer-run respite centers throughout Massachusetts. These centers provide short-term, temporary lodging and peer support services to adults experiencing emotional or mental distress. Peer supporters, who have lived or living experience, provide these services. The Department of Mental Health will establish a minimum of 14 regional peer respites, with at least one in each county, and at least two dedicated to serving LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC communities. The bill also mandates annual reporting on the progress and challenges of implementing these respite centers.
