Massachusetts S1109 amends Chapter 265 of the General Laws by adding a new section that criminalizes actions that intentionally coerce or encourage another person to die by or attempt to die by suicide. This includes providing the means for suicide or participating in a physical act that aids in suicide. The bill also defines terms such as "suicide," "suicide attempt," and "suicidal ideation." A person found guilty under this section faces imprisonment for up to 5 years and is ineligible for prosecution for manslaughter. The law does not apply to medical treatment lawfully administered.
