Massachusetts H937 amends Chapter 21 of the General Laws to prohibit the use of effluent water in any cooling tower within the state. A cooling tower is defined as a heat rejection device that cools a water stream to a lower temperature, thereby releasing waste heat into the atmosphere. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection will be advised by the Division of Environmental Engineering regarding enforcement of this restriction and may establish additional rules and regulations to further limit the use of effluent water.
