Massachusetts H919 aims to protect and preserve northern right whales and other endangered whale and sea turtle species.
Massachusetts H919 mandates the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife’s Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program (NHESP) to conduct annual reviews for five years to assess the impacts of marine fisheries on endangered marine wildlife species. NHESP will also evaluate the designation of "significant habitats" for the Northern Right Whale in Cape Cod Bay and other coastal waters. The bill sets the economic value of a Northern Right Whale at $2,000,000 for financial and environmental assessments.
