Massachusetts H574 amends Chapter 71 of the General Laws to restrict student use of cellphones, mobile electronic devices, smart watches, or emerging technology during school hours. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education must establish policies allowing device use only for specific purposes, such as responding to health or safety threats, or for students with Individualized Education Plans. The department can also create model policies for districts to follow.
