The bill establishes a Department of Public Works in the town of Barre, Massachusetts, consolidating the highway, water, sewer, and parks and recreation departments. It repeals the previous Public Works Commission established by Chapter 56 of the Acts of 1988. The new Department of Public Works will assume all powers, duties, and responsibilities of the former departments. The superintendent of the new department will be appointed by the select board, in consultation with the town administrator, and will report to the town administrator.
