Provides equitable access to military creditable service for judges in Massachusetts retirement systems.
This bill amends Massachusetts law to ensure that judges eligible for retirement benefits receive written notice of their entitlement to credit for military service if they qualify as veterans. The creditable service is limited to 4 years and cannot be applied to periods for which credit has already been received. The credit applies to both national guard and active reserve personnel. Judges must make makeup payments for the creditable service, calculated at 10% of their annual compensation when they entered the retirement system.
