Authorizing the city of Newton to place municipal charges liens on certain properties in the city of Newton for nonpayment of any local charge, fee or fine

Chamber Passed·6/11/26
Introduced Text

Authorizes the city of Newton to place liens on properties for unpaid local charges, fees, or fines.

The bill allows the city of Newton to impose municipal charges liens on properties for nonpayment of local charges, fees, or fines. These liens take effect upon recording the unpaid charge in the Middlesex southern district registry of deeds. If the charge remains unpaid when the city assessors prepare the real estate tax list, it is added to the property tax and collected with the tax warrant. Costs for recording or discharging the lien are borne by the property owner. The city council must vote on each type of charge, fee, or fine to be collected under this act.
