The bill establishes peer respites in Massachusetts to provide voluntary, short-term, trauma-informed support for individuals experiencing emotional or mental distress. These peer respites, run by individuals with lived experience, offer a home-like environment and focus on recovery, resiliency, and wellness. The Department of Mental Health will allocate funding and assist in establishing at least 14 peer respites, including two specializing in serving LGBTQIA+ individuals and members of the BIPOC community.
