Massachusetts H5001 introduces Election Day Registration, allowing eligible voters to register at their precinct on Election Day by presenting proof of residency and signing an oath. Acceptable proof includes a valid photo ID or documents like a utility bill or bank statement. Voters who register on Election Day will be registered for future elections as well. Individuals who fail to present proof of residency can cast a provisional ballot, which will be counted if they provide the required information before the election closes. The law takes effect on January 1, 2028.
