Marblehead authorizes a means-tested property tax exemption for senior citizens.

The bill authorizes the town of Marblehead to establish a means-tested property tax exemption for senior citizens. The exemption applies to residential real property owned and occupied by individuals aged 65 or older or jointly by persons aged 60 or older, with at least one being 65 or older. The exemption is subject to income limits and asset assessments set by the select board. The select board can promulgate rules and regulations for the exemption, including a public hearing. The exemption is in addition to other allowable exemptions, subject to an annual dollar cap set by the select board.
