Massachusetts H4193 establishes a real estate transfer fee in Amherst, up to 2% of the purchase price.

Massachusetts H4193 authorizes the city of Amherst to impose a real estate transfer fee of up to 2% of the purchase price on property transfers. The fee applies to transfers of real property interests and controlling interests in entities holding such property. The town can set additional requirements, exemptions, and regulations through bylaw. Certain transfers are exempt, including those involving the federal government, the commonwealth, and the town of Amherst, as well as transfers to or from the Amherst housing authority, affordable housing properties, and family members.
