Massachusetts H4141 authorizes the city of North Adams to appoint retired North Adams police officers as special police officers for paid detail assignments. These officers will have the same powers as regular police officers, including the ability to make arrests. The mayor will appoint these officers, who must have served as regular North Adams police officers and retired based on superannuation. They must also maintain proper certification by Peace Officer Standards and Training. The police chief can set fees for training, medical examinations, equipment, uniforms, and other requirements.
