Allows Massachusetts municipalities to regulate solar energy systems for non-residential purposes.
The bill amends Chapter 40A of the General Laws to allow municipalities to reasonably regulate the installation of solar energy systems for commercial, governmental, and non-residential purposes. This regulation can occur to protect public health, safety, and welfare, preserve forested, agricultural, or wetland lands, or ensure compatibility with existing structures. Residential solar energy systems are exempt from unreasonable regulation, except when necessary for public health, safety, or welfare.
