Relative to survivor’s benefits for the spouses of retired state troopers

Introduced·2/27/25
Introduced Text

Establishes survivor benefits for spouses of retired state troopers in Massachusetts.

This bill amends Chapter 32 of the General Laws to establish survivor benefits for spouses of retired state troopers. If a retired state trooper dies and leaves a spouse to whom they were married for at least one year and with whom they were living at the time of death, or who was living apart for justifiable cause, the spouse is eligible for a member-survivor allowance. The allowance is a lifetime, monthly payment equal to what the trooper would have received if they had elected a specific option at retirement.
