Establishes a presumption of line-of-duty disability or death for contagious diseases in full-time uniformed emergency service members.
This bill amends Massachusetts law to presume that contagious diseases resulting in disability or death for full-time uniformed members of police, fire, or emergency medical services were suffered in the line of duty. This presumption applies unless non-service connected factors are proven to have caused the condition. The bill specifies that the contagious diseases include those that can result from exposure to blood and other body fluids, excluding the common cold. It also allows for benefits to be applied for within five years of the last active service date.
