Massachusetts H2396 mandates safe patient handling and mobility programs in health facilities to reduce injury risks.

Massachusetts H2396 requires hospitals and nursing homes to adopt safe patient handling and mobility programs by December 1, 2025. These programs must identify, assess, and develop strategies to control injury risks to patients and caregivers from lifting, transferring, or moving patients. Facilities must replace manual lifting with powered transfer devices and consistent techniques using current equipment unless contraindicated. The programs must include patient care ergonomic evaluations, injury data tracking, and equipment acquisition.
