The bill establishes the PFAS Research and Development Public Safety Fund to be administered by the Secretary of Public Safety and Security. The fund will support the development, testing, and purchasing of PFAS-free firefighter turnout gear moisture barrier materials and designs. It will also fund the development and testing of new materials and designs for turnout gear that reduce firefighter exposure to particulates and byproducts of combustion. The fund will be financed by appropriations, grants, gifts, and investment income, with any unexpended balance available for the next fiscal year.
