H2064

Relative to bereavement leave for the loss of a child

Introduced·2/27/25
Introduced Text

Massachusetts H2064 establishes bereavement leave for employees who lose a child.

Massachusetts H2064 amends Chapter 149 of the General Laws to allow employees to take up to 10 days of paid bereavement leave following the death of a child. Bereavement leave can be used consecutively or non-consecutively within 12 months of the child's death. Employers must pay employees at their regular rate and continue their benefits during the leave. For part-time workers, compensation is calculated based on average hours worked over the preceding 12 months. Employers can require documentation of the child's death, such as a death certificate or obituary.
