Removing barriers to the expungement of records

Introduced·2/27/25
Introduced Text

Massachusetts H2050 eases barriers for expunging criminal records.

Massachusetts H2050 amends Chapter 276 of the General Laws to modify the criteria for expunging criminal records. It allows for the expungement of records if the offenses occurred before the petitioner's twenty-first birthday and meet specific time frames. For felonies, the offenses must have occurred at least seven years prior to the petition, and for misdemeanors, at least three years. The petitioner must also have no other criminal convictions, excluding minor motor vehicle offenses. The bill ensures that any violation of certain sections is treated as a felony for expungement purposes.
