Massachusetts H2005 amends the General Laws to increase penalties for assaults on correctional personnel by inmates.

Massachusetts H2005 amends the General Laws by adding a new subsection to Section 38B of chapter 127. The new subsection increases penalties for inmates who assault correctional personnel, including officers, employees, volunteers, and contractors, using dangerous weapons. The offense is punishable by imprisonment for up to 2.5 years in a jail or house of correction, or up to 20 years in a state prison. The sentence will commence after any unserved sentences the inmate has at the time of the assault.
