H1909

Relative to landlords accountability with regard to drug houses

Introduced·2/27/25
Introduced Text

Massachusetts bill H1909 establishes penalties for landlords who knowingly rent or lease properties used for illegal drug activities.

The bill amends Chapter 139 of the General Laws to prohibit landlords from knowingly renting or leasing properties for illegal drug activities. Landlords found in violation face civil penalties, with amounts increasing for subsequent offenses. Penalties collected are to be used for drug awareness education or substance abuse counseling for youths, parents, and other adults. Housing authorities are exempt from these provisions.
