To promote timely access to parole hearings

Introduced·2/27/25
Introduced Text

Promotes timely access to parole hearings by restructuring the parole board and setting specific qualifications for board members.

The bill amends the Massachusetts General Laws to enhance the efficiency of parole hearings. It establishes a parole board within the department, consisting of twelve members appointed by the governor. Seven members will preside over life sentence hearings, and five will handle regular order hearings. The chairperson will designate members to cover these hearings, ensuring regional representation. The bill also mandates that at least one member with forensic psychology experience and two with social services or reentry coordination experience participate in both types of hearings.
