Establishes a special commission to investigate check washing crimes in Massachusetts.

The bill establishes a special commission to identify ways to more effectively deter and prosecute check washing crimes in Massachusetts. Check washing is defined as altering a check or money order to change the payee or amount and fraudulently cashing it. The commission will consider ways to protect consumers, appropriate penalties, and more effective prosecution methods. It must file a report with its findings and recommendations by June 30, 2026.
