Massachusetts H1705 amends laws to enhance patient care access and safety.

Massachusetts H1705 amends the General Laws to improve patient care access and safety. It modifies the definition of "Medical peer review committee" to include committees formed by health care providers to evaluate and improve health care services. The bill also mandates that expert witnesses in malpractice cases be board certified in the same specialty as the defendant. Additionally, it requires insurers and risk management organizations to report annually to the Betsy Lehman Center for Patient Safety and Medical Error Reduction.
