Massachusetts H1653 amends Chapter 149 of the Massachusetts General Laws to protect employees' free speech rights. Employers, including the state and its political subdivisions, cannot discipline or discharge employees for discussing political or religious matters, provided it does not interfere with job performance. Employers can still communicate legally required information or necessary job duties. Religious corporations, entities, associations, educational institutions, or societies exempt from certain federal and state laws are not subject to these provisions.
