An Act to Facilitate the Establishment of an Automated Crime Victim Notification System

Complete·4/13/26

Establishes an automated crime victims notification system in Maine to inform victims of changes in offender status or custody.

The bill mandates the County Corrections Professional Standards Council to create an automated crime victims notification system. This system will provide timely notices to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other serious crimes about changes in the offender's incarceration status or custody and criminal justice proceedings. Notifications can be delivered via written mail, electronic means such as email or text message, or other application-based systems. The system must operate 24/7, support English and Spanish, and include a directory of community-based support services.
