Expands property tax relief for veterans and their survivors in Maine.
This bill modifies property tax benefits for veterans and their survivors in Maine. It removes the requirement for veterans to have served during a federally recognized war period to qualify for tax relief. Veterans now receive an exemption of up to $5,000 of the just value of their property. The bill also extends tax relief to unremarried surviving spouses, minor children, and parents of deceased veterans who meet certain criteria. The changes apply to property tax years beginning on or after April 1, 2026.
